Great Idea!

There is a lot of confusion about “cutting the cord” and streaming devices.  Cutting the cord basically means you are ending a relationship with a TV provider like Spectrum, Uverse, Direct TV.  The alternative is to use a streaming device which will pull all your content from the internet.  One of these devices can work with multiple streaming services.  Here are some device options:

  1. Amazon Fire Stick – Very easy to set up and use.  Works with Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, HBO and Pandora.  Keep in mind that you will also have to pay for those services.  The stick cost starts at $39.99.
  2. Roku Premier Streaming Stick – The cost for the stick is currently $35.  Tons of streaming services are available. from movies and series on Netflix, Prime video, HBO Now and Showtime to cable alternatives like Sling TV or YouTube TV to live sports and news on CBS news, ABC news and ESPN (There is also an Express version of the Roku stick for $29.99).
  3. Apple TV – Offering cable and premium channels.  Over 100,000 movies to rent or buy, along with popular streaming services.  The latest model is $199.99. The Apple TV is a good choice if you use many Apple products and you want to connect all of them.  Airplay capability allows you to stream music, videos, etc… from any Apple device in your home.

Tip of the month

How to transfer files and settings from an old iPhone to a new iPhone

  • Backup your old phone to either iCloud or iTunes
  • Make sure you are connected to WiFi and your Bluetooth is turned on
  • Turn your new phone on and put them close together
  • A Quick Start screen will ask if you’d like to set up your new device – click Continue
  • Hold your current iPhone over the new one.  You will see Finish
  • You’ll be prompted to enter your current passcode on the new phone and then your Apple ID password
  • Lastly, it will ask you, and you will choose to restore from your latest backup
