How annoying is it to get multiple messages from a group text? You can actually mute all the responses in your list of messages. Find the group and swipe left. Instead of deleting, choose “Hide Alerts”.
If you’ve got multiple group text conversations going, it can be hard to keep track of which group is which. Maybe labels can help. You can quickly name a group text by opening the conversation, tapping the “i” icon in the top right and then tapping Enter a Group Name at the top.
Personalize the tone for different levels of importance. Make the tone for your spouse different than that of your boss. Contacts – Edit – scroll down to Text Tone and change it.
4. If someone is pestering you via text, it’s easy to block that number. From your text conversation, tap the “i” in the top right, tap the name or number at the top and then tap Block this Caller. Finally, tap Block Contact to confirm.
Tip of the month
Smart Home
I’ll be honest, this is a new tech category that I think can become not only very useful, but also very intimidating and confusing. I am going to try to spot light a few options each month for awhile and I will start with 2 that I have in my home – both from the same company.
I wanted to automate my outside lights that were controlled by switches at my front door. I knew that you could do this by the bulb, or by the switch. I opted for the switch. So I simply replaced (true confessions – the handyman did it!) the two switches with the ones made by Wemo – Wemo Smart Light Switch. Once they are installed, you download the app to your phone and set up “rules” as to when you want them turning on and off. Daylight Savings time has occurred since installation so I’ve had to change the timing on the rules, no problem! As long as the wifi in your house is working, it’s a breeze. Since this has worked so well, I searched to see about a “plug”. The timer on a lamp in my home was a real pain to set up and it often didn’t work. Therefore I bought a Wemo smart plug which works on the same app as my light switches and I didn’t even need a handyman to plug it in!
