Great Idea!

Using a Digital Assistant to travel better

If you are a Google user, you can use the built in digital assistant to assist your travels.  The service can scan your Gmail and Google Calendar for booking details and appointments.  It can also learn your preferences based on your browsing history to deliver relevant updates – local weather, currency conversions – within the app.
You’ll get:

  • Real – time updates -info about flights, including delays and gate changes, starting 24 hours before departure.
  • Scheduling Assistance – Based on traffic and your preferred mode of transportation, it’ll tell you when to leave for the airport, a dinner reservation and meetings and appointments
  • Rebooking help – If your flight is canceled, Google provides a direct link to Google Flight Search, which displays alternative flights
  • Itinerary Management – A new feature pulls up your flight and hotel confirmations, restaurant bookings, and more.  Simply say “OK Google, show me my trip.”

iPad Apps

Google Translate –  cost:Free – More than 30 languages supported and the ability to deliver impressively accurate results most of the time.

ifttt– cost:Free – ‘If this, then that’—shorten that little tag line to ifttt, and you’ve got one of the best apps on the market. This amazingly simple yet powerful iPhone app can automate just about anything you’d want to do in your digital life, from backing up photos on Facebook to sending you text message reminders of upcoming appointments.

Dragon Dictation – cost:Free –Reasonably accurate and fast, the Dragon Dictation iPhone app cuts the typing out of jotting down a note, drafting an email, posting to Twitter, and a few other light tasks. As a simple dictation app, Dragon transcribes whatever you speak with good accuracy.

Tip of the month
